Stat info

GW1 and GW2 are very similar games. Therefore, this page will only focus on the differences between the games. If you want to read about all stats, you can read the page for GW2.

Damage upgrades

Unlike in GW2, damage upgrades in GW1 do not increase damage dealt by buffs or spray damage. Damage dealt by buffs includes damage dealt by electric arcs and damage dealt by spray Chompers (excluding Chomp Thing). Chemist has a damage upgrade, but since he only does spray damage, it does nothing.

Chompers

There are multiple differences between Chompers in the two games. Firstly, most Chompers use sphere bullets instead of a trapezoid do deal melee damage. Unlike normal bullets, sphere bullets cannot impact other players and have a radius. These bullets can therefore deal damage to multiple targets without splash damage. However, all spray Chompers excluding Chomp Thing use a trapezoid buff spreader to deal damage, just like in GW2. One crucial difference is that unlike in GW2, damage dealt by the buff spreader is dealt at the end of the 0.25 second period. This means you must fire for at least 0.25 seconds before any damage is dealt and thus the RoF exploit in GW2 is not present in GW1. In fact, tap-firing results in dealing less damage. One final thing to note is that I’ve added these 0.25 seconds to the TTK for spray Chompers.

Reload delay

In GW2, reload delay is complex and varies between different fire types. However, in GW1 it’s simply always equal to 60 divided by the weapons rate of fire. A lot of abilities in both games have a rate of fire of 150 with the single fire fire logic type. This results in a reload delay of 0.4 seconds in GW1 and 0.033 seconds in GW2. This means many abilities take longer to switch back to the primary. With Sticky Explody Balls and the Heal Station for Scientist, it’s possible to execute a rate of fire exploit in GW2 since the time it takes to use these abilities and switch back to the primary is less than the interval between shots, but in GW1 with the added reload delay, this cannot be exploited.

Balancing changes

Patch notes for GW1 are incredibly lacking in numbers. Therefore, there’s significant uncertainty with some of the changes, although I am confident in most of the patch data I’ve gathered. Numbers for changes like the nerf to Plumber’s splash radius and Chemist’s Spray AoE are educated guesses at best. Same with the buff to Arctic Troopers falloff end distance, his freeze rate and Berry Shooter’s splash radius nerf, although I am significantly more confident about these changes. Lastly, I could not find any footage anywhere of Dr. Toxic before March 7th, 2014 when his rate of fire and damage falloff distances were buffed. I’m almost entirely sure his falloff distances would have been the same as the stock Scientist, but as for the rate of fire I just guessed it used to be 90, but it could’ve been 80 for all I know. If you can find any footage of Dr. Toxic before March 7th, be sure to DM me on discord.
